The COVID-19 crisis has placed unprecedented pressure on European healthcare systems, calling for innovative thinking and ways of partnering to face the immediate challenges of the pandemic as well as the future recovery.
As part of EU body the EIT, we join the coordinated EU response from the European Commission. Our focus is on how we can support in pandemic response as part of Horizon 2020, the EU’s Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. Through Horizon 2020, EIT Health and a wide network of EU institutions and bodies are taking resolute action to arm health services with better tools to navigate the pandemic and reduce its impact on European citizens.
The EIT Health community is working tirelessly to play our part in responding to the pandemic, harnessing our combined knowledge and the strength of our network to join the fight against the virus.
The EIT Health teams working across 25 countries are also keen to support the community in raising awareness of the European Union’s newly launched COVID-19 initiatives such as the Joint Procurement Agreement for purchasing personal protective equipment, respiratory ventilators and items necessary for coronavirus testing and the rescEU stockpile of supplies needed to fight the coronavirus.
“The immediate need is to respond to the threat of COVID-19 and we are proud to see our community involved in so many projects to help keep citizens safe. We are here to support you now as well as when the time comes to reflect on our learnings to find solutions that will strengthen healthcare systems, promote better health of citizens, and contribute to a sustainable health economy in Europe for the future.”
– Jan-Philipp Beck, EIT Health CEO
