Students develop innovations at first EIT Health Arrowhead Workshop for Digital European Health Services

7th January 2019

Organised through the EIT Health E-Lab Network

Student teams developed digital healthcare innovations, like an application for personalised medication and a chatbot that helps arrange health insurance issues or doctors‘ appointments, at the first ever EIT Health Arrowhead Workshop for Digital European Health Services, hosted by Technical University Munich on 19-20 November.

As part of the E-Lab Network (also known as the EIT Health Starter Lab Network), the Munich, Germany, Entrepreneurship Lab (E-Lab) partners invited 17 international students and their academic coaches from Entrepreneurship Labs in Copenhagen, Denmark; Grenoble, France; Lodz, Poland; Maastricht, Netherlands; and Stockholm, Sweden.

Participants were divided into interdisciplinary teams of three to four students from diverse areas of study, such as medicine, public health, bioentrepreneurship and economics.

Supported by coaches from the E-Lab Network partners, each team was tasked with developing a business concept for digital European health services during this two-day hands-on workshop.

The event also featured a presentation from project partner ottonova, a Munich-based private health insurance start-up and workshops on problem statements and paper prototyping that encouraged the students to create solutions based on jointly detected pain points.

By the end of the gathering, the five teams prepared their problem definitions, business models and prototypes and gave final presentations. The gatheing offered a perfect opportunity for students and academic coaches to gather cross-national knowledge in the field of healthcare and to foster an innovative mind-set within the sector.
