EIT Health CEO Jan-Philipp Beck will join a panel discussion, and innovators we support will be pitching, during a 28 October, 5 pm session on “Patients as co-designers and co-innovators” for the European Patients’ Forum Congress 2021, taking place online from 25-29 October.

Co-organised by EIT Health, the 28 October session will start with pitches from Jaume Puig, a patient as innovator and co-founder and CEO of Biel Glasses, and Dr Esther Murphy, Research Fellow, School of Nursing & Midwifery at Trinity College Dublin and Principal Investigator for Digi-ID: accessible digital skills education programme for people with intellectual disabilities. After the pitches, Jan-Philipp will participate in a panel centred around how policy can facilitate and incentivise co-design. The panel will discuss lessons from the acceleration of health digitalisation during the COVID-19 pandemic and what the future should look like.

About the European Patients’ Forum Congress

The European Patients’ Forum (EPF) has been representing patients’ voices in a united and influential way over the past 18 years, in order to drive better health in Europe. The EPF Congress is an event facilitating dialogue and engagement among a wide range of health players who aspire to showcase patient-led innovation.

EIT Health CEO Jan-Philipp Beck is a member of the High-Level Congress Advisory Board, which gives insights on plans for the EPF Congress and promotes its overall goals at the policy and programmatic level.

This year the congress will contribute to bringing coherence to the fragmented picture of patient involvement in digitalisation in healthcare and support the implementation of good practice in this fast-developing area. The EPF Congress will focus on Europe while bringing in perspectives from other regions. It will be highly relevant to policy, linking meaningful patient involvement to headline priorities of the European Commission – the EU data strategy and European Health Data Space, and initiatives on artificial intelligence. Participants will explore what meaningful patient involvement means in a rapidly changing healthcare environment using new technologies, and why it is critical to successful innovation.
