In the latest instalment of our ‘Meet the Team’ series, we interview the Ireland-UK hub’s new Content Manager, Sneha Saloni.
Sneha holds an MA in Gender Studies from University College Dublin, and a post-grad. diploma in Journalism from The Times School of Journalism in New Delhi. She started her career as a print media journalist and has worked across several media houses including The Times of India.
She moved to Ireland in 2017 and after completing her masters, she worked as a copywriter and content manager in the charity sector. Throughout her career, Sneha has collaborated with healthcare charities and women’s NGOs, helping them to effectively communicate complex healthcare information, and connect with diverse audiences.
The EIT Health Ireland-UK team is delighted to welcome Sneha as Content Manager.
As a journalist-turned-content manager in the healthcare sector, how do you think your previous experience in journalism has helped you in your current role?
Journalism has taught me to ask critical questions, research thoroughly, and present information in a clear and engaging manner. These skills have translated well into creating informative and compelling healthcare content that resonates with our audience. Also, my experience in interviewing various individuals has given me an understanding of how to effectively communicate with healthcare professionals and extract valuable insights for our content.
Who is the most interesting person you have interviewed?
I’ve had the opportunity to interview many fascinating individuals who have left a lasting impression on me. It’s difficult to choose just one as the most interesting, but if I had to pick, it would be my interviews with Dr Laura Kann, an Atlanta-based physician and an academic researcher from the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention and Dr Omolola Salako, a clinical oncologist from Nigeria.
What sets them apart is not just their medical expertise but also their unwavering passion to make a difference in society. Their stories about field work in remote regions, trying to bring accessible healthcare and low-cost medical technologies to all, is truly captivating.
All the conversations I have had in my career, serve as a reminder of the incredible individuals working tirelessly behind the scenes to create positive change in healthcare and beyond.
After working in the healthcare sector with charities, what motivated you to transition into the health tech industry and join EIT Health?
While working in the healthcare sector, I have witnessed first-hand the challenges faced by patients, healthcare providers, and organisations in delivering efficient and accessible care in communities that cannot afford regular hospital visits. I saw the immense potential of technology to address these challenges and transform healthcare delivery. The role with EIT Health Ireland-UK offered a platform where I could combine my passion for healthcare with my interest in technology to make a broader impact on the industry as a whole.
Additionally, I feel that EIT Health will provide me an opportunity to leverage my skills and experiences in a new and exciting way. I can utilize my knowledge of the healthcare landscape, understanding of patient needs, and expertise in storytelling to create meaningful content that educates, inspires, and drives positive change in the healthtech sector. There is an immense opportunity for me to learn from this new role.
In your opinion, what role does content play in shaping public perception and understanding of healthcare topics?
Storytelling is a powerful tool when working on topics related to healthcare. Well-crafted healthcare content can inform, educate, and bridge the gap between complex medical information and the general public. Health literacy is extremely important and can empower people to make informed decisions about their health. We can achieve this by creating meaningful content.
How do you plan to create strategic and impactful content for EIT Health Ireland-UK?
The health tech industry is ever-evolving, so the content strategy needs to be dynamic. Here’s how I plan to achieve that:
An Audience-Centric Approach: Understanding the needs, challenges, and aspirations of our target audience is crucial. This understanding will guide the creation of content that resonates with our audience, addresses their concerns, and provides valuable solutions.
Storytelling with Purpose: I will leverage storytelling techniques to highlight real-life success stories, and showcase the impact of innovative technologies on patients, healthcare providers, and society as a whole.
Thought Leadership and Educational Content: This includes informative articles, expert interviews, and in-depth guides that explains complex concepts in a clear and accessible way.
Engaging Multimedia: Incorporating engaging multimedia elements such as infographics, videos, and interactive features will help enhance the user experience, simplify complex concepts, and make our content more shareable and memorable.
Sneha will attend the HSE Spark Summit Innovation Conference taking place on 15th June in Dublin, where EIT Health will sponsor the Spark Ignite competition finals. Meet Sneha at the event to learn more about EIT Health Ireland-UK.
