Jean-Marc Bourez, CEO of EIT Health, will be a featured speaker at the Science|Business Annual Conference taking place in Brussels on 5-6 February 2025.
This year’s conference, titled “New mandate, new agenda: Will the EU live up to its promises on R&I?”, brings together leaders from across policy, industry, and science to address pressing questions about the future of Europe’s research and innovation (R&I) landscape.
Jean-Marc Bourez will participate in a high-level panel discussion on 6 February, from 14:45 to 15:45 CET, exploring whether Europe’s innovation ecosystem is equipped to support start-up and scale-up agendas. Key topics of the session include identifying successful instruments to retain, learning from past challenges, and determining the next steps to drive transformative change.
The panel will feature prominent speakers, including; Cristian Dascălu, Board Member, European Startup Network; Marina Silverii, Executive Director, ART-ER; Janet Geddes, Deputy Director – Global, Innovate UK; and a senior representative from the European Commission (TBC)
The conference is expected to gather over 300 senior participants from Europe and beyond, representing diverse perspectives across policy, industry, and academia.
As the EU begins discussions on the next multi-year budget (2028-2034) and the successor to Horizon Europe (FP10), the conference will tackle critical questions about the future of European R&I. Key topics to be explored include:
- Can member states increase contributions to the R&I budget, or is a robust capital markets union essential for scaling investment?
- How will the proposed competitiveness fund reshape R&I funding and governance?
- Should FP10 focus on revolution or evolution, particularly in relation to the Widening agenda and industry-led partnerships?
- What role could a European ARPA-style mechanism play in driving breakthrough innovation?
- How will geopolitics shape future international cooperation, research security, and openness?
The Science|Business Annual Conference promises to be a crucial forum for shaping the future of Europe’s innovation ecosystem, and we are delighted to see Jean-Marc Bourez representing EIT Health at this high-profile event.
