Innovation Forum: Succeeding as a Health Tech Entrepreneur

In the rapidly expanding world of digital health – dominated by tech giants and a maze of regulation – how do you make it big as a small health start-up? You may have defined a genuine unmet need in healthcare and designed a solution around it. Where do you go from there?

Who do you collaborate with to pitch your bright idea, secure investment, commercialise your research, gain access to the acute sector, and get that all-important proof of concept by testing your digital product in the real world?

How do you do all this while navigating an increasingly complex regulatory landscape in Europe with GDPR and new EU legislation on the horizon such as the EU AI Act, Data Act and European Health Data Space?  

This interactive workshop is designed to support you to succeed as a health tech entrepreneur, offering insider tips from investors, payors, providers, clinicians, patients and big tech. The session will be packed with inspiring examples of start-up journeys to learn from and opportunities to question global innovation experts.

The session will feature two parts. The first part focuses on hearing from different start-ups that are solving Healthcare’s Wicked Problems. The second part will be a panel discussion on the key ingredients to successful innovation with impact, featuring expert panellists including Cristina Bescos, Director if Innovation, EIT Health. 

The session will be moderated by Anca del Rio, President EIT Alumni, European Institute of Innovation and Technology and Health Tech Community Lead, Basel Area Business & Innovation, Switzerland. 

Unleashing the Potential of Apps and Digital Therapeutics

Jerome Fabiano, Public Affairs & Stakeholders Relationship Lead & coordinator of the Pan-European taskforce to harmonise Digital Medical Devices Evaluation, EIT Health France and and Fruzsina Mezei, Taskforce Coordinator will be participating as a panellists on the 7th of June from 01:00 to 03:15 pm (CET Time) in the Unleashing the Potential of Apps and Digital Therapeutics session along with other members of the European Taskforce for Harmonised Evaluations of Digital Medical Devices (DMDs) and members of its External Advisory Board. 

This session will dive into the latest in governance, regulation and validation of mobile health apps, and digital therapeutics (DTx), examining progress in alignment of assessment of apps and DTx; frameworks for clinical validation; payment and reimbursement structures. 

Regional experts will explore how changing attitudes to recommending and prescribing apps by healthcare professionals will impact the adoption and engagement of these digital tools. How can they leverage real impact in the sphere of prevention, management and support for patients? Is the latest research on behaviour change and lifestyle interventions being incorporated into efficient and engaging tools for management of disease? Come and find out!

Start-up PitchFest

HIMSS23 European Health Conference & Exhibition is set to launch its inaugural Start-up PitchFest at this year’s event in Portugal. The contest is aimed at identifying promising early-stage start-ups working on solutions to problems faced by health systems and providers across Europe. Taking place at the conference in Lisbon on 7-9 June 2023, it will aim to match innovation to real-time problems in healthcare.
