EIT Health celebrated as one of EU’s most important healthcare initiatives
On the 26 June, EIT Health UK-Ireland joined the Innovation Agency of the North West Coast at “Transforming Healthcare – Everybody’s business,” an event organised by the Agency within the Health and Life Sciences Day at the 2018 International Business Festival in Liverpool. During the event, the Innovation Agency explored local, national and international trends in healthcare and promoted the benefits of digital health innovations to improve the quality of life of patients in the UK, especially in the Northwest Coast area.
A fantastic line of speakers, including Steve Rotheram, the Metro Mayor of Liverpool City Region, and Paul Rice, Head of Technology Strategy at NHS England, attended the event to share their experiences about the impact that digital technology is having on the way health and social care are delivered.
The Innovation Agency also celebrated the cross-European collaborations they launched with EIT Health since joining the EIT Health’s network as core partner at the beginning of this year. Among these, they presented the successes of EIT Health as one of the most important EU healthcare initiatives in promoting healthy living, supporting active ageing and improving healthcare. They also highlighted that EIT Health’s innovations in the UK and Ireland are highly succeeding in empowering patients and EIT Health’s effort to promote healthcare entrepreneurship in the region is making the UK and the Northwest an attractive international healthcare market.
As part of the event, the Innovation Agency offered EIT Health the opportunity to host the UK-Ireland finals of the EIT Health 2018 Headstart Funding Programme, where we revealed the names of the ten winning start-ups of this year. The winning teams had the chance to pitch their innovative ideas and were awarded €50 000 each to launch their products in the healthcare market.
