The 2018 programmes will provide practical support for the RIS hubs in innovation.
The RIS programme is dedicated to the strengthening of local innovation ecosystems in the regions of Europe not directly benefiting from the activities of EIT Health and EIT’s other Knowledge and Innovation Communities – KICs.
The main mission of the RIS hubs is to involve local innovation stakeholders, especially Knowledge Triangle Integration (KTI) actors: representatives of research, education and industry partners of their region in KIC activities.
Before having participated in the official F2F meeting, RIS hub partners were intensely involved in EIT Health start-up recruitments for business creation and education competitions of the year. After the hard and successful work – which resulted in a 50% increase in the number of submitted start-up applications compared to last year’s – it was finally time to sit down and go through the programmes, opportunities, plans and goals of the year.
The Summit started with the hubs’ representatives introducing their regions, institutions, roles in local innovation ecosystem building and presenting the opportunities and challenges the hubs faced. EIT Health InnoStars experts along with the RIS hub representatives discussed their yearly activity schedule, work plan and also shared upcoming events of the year that will provide the hubs international good practices of the most developed regions and ecosystems of Europe.
The 2018 programmes of EIT Health InnoStars will provide practical support for the RIS hubs in innovation ecosystem improvement – among others, by answering the following questions:
How to develop local strategies to bring together local actors from the areas of research, education and business;
How to identify unique assets and funding opportunities.
Throughout the year, the hub representatives will have the opportunity to consult highly appreciated and experienced international experts as innovation advisory board members to receive tailor-made advice, and to also visit well recognised innovation ecosystems, meeting their representatives and internalising the lessons learned.
The first site visit and KTI workshop was held on 23-25 May in Liège, Belgium at the ASTP-Proton Annual Conference on Technology Transfer (read more here), the second will take place between 2 and 5 October in Haifa, Israel at Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.
Having kicked off the RIS hub network’s first year cooperation in Budapest, we are looking forward to a very successful year with fruitful cooperations and results.
