Farewell to Our Managing Director, Dr. Menno Kok

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of Dr. Menno Kok, Managing Director of EIT Health Belgium-Netherlands. Menno’s last day with us will be June 30, 2024.

Menno is a scientist with an innate curiosity and a profound conviction that scientific adventures become much more challenging when focused on creating value for society. His career path took him from biochemistry to microbial biotechnology, from groundbreaking work in the proteomics of bacterial pathogens to vaccine development. In the early 2000s, he decided to change gears towards a more holistic role in academic research and joined the Department of Research Policy at the Erasmus University Medical Center. This role allowed him to deeply explore the cores of top scientific achievement and foster national and international collaborative efforts.

In 2013, Menno joined the Medical Delta team, whilst playing a crucial role in the creation of “Innolife,” the initiative that successfully secured the first EIT Health grant in 2014. This landmark achievement paved the way for the establishment of EIT Health in 2015, where Menno has been a key figure on the international board of directors and has served as our Managing Director ever since.

Throughout his tenure, Menno has been instrumental in shaping the evolution of EIT Health. He always made time for his team, offered invaluable advice, and provided everyone with the professional freedom to excel. His vision and leadership have left an indelible mark on our organization, and his unwavering commitment to our partners has significantly strengthened our collaborative efforts.

As we bid farewell to Menno, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Hayley Every has been appointed as Deputy Director, ad interim. Hayley, a trusted and valued team member, has worked closely with Menno and our partners over the years. She will continue to build on Menno’s legacy, ensuring operational stability and a smooth transition to new leadership.
