Needs-Led Innovation Fellowship : Projet moteur d’innovation durable et porteur de solutions concrètes au niveau de l’hôpital régional de Saint- Louis au Sénégal

Depuis le 27 janvier 2020, 3 boursiers : Myra, Sall & Mihir ont débuté une immersion de 5 semaines à l’hôpital régional Saint Louis du Sénégal. Dans la continuité de son projet « Accélérer l’Impact local » pour améliorer la santé maternelle et infantile dans cette région, la Fondation Sanofi Espoir, partenaire EIT Health France – via Sanofi, soutient une mission d’études de 6 mois, de février à juillet 2020, pour 3 boursiers du programme “Needs-Led Innovation Fellowship” de l’Université d’Oxford, et soutenu par EIT Health .

Revisiter les leviers d’amélioration de la santé maternelle et néonatale : un projet dans la continuité des initiatives de la Fondation Sanofi Espoir  

Dés 2018, la Fondation Sanofi Espoir en partenariat avec l’organisation humanitaire à but non lucratif WAHA / Artemedis et le département Acceleration Tactics de la société de conseil Saegus dans le département de Saint-Louis, au Sénégal ont effectué plusieurs missions dans la région de Saint-Louis afin de mieux comprendre l’expérience des femmes au sein de leur écosystème et d’identifier les déterminants de la santé maternelle et néonatale. Artemedis est une organisation médicale à but non lucratif qui s’efforce de donner accès à des soins médicaux de qualité aux communautés défavorisées dans le monde entier. L’organisation s’efforce de réduire la mortalité maternelle en fournissant des traitements médicaux et en formant des travailleurs de la santé. A l’aide de différentes explorations, analyses et première méthodologie d’estimation de l’impact des interventions sanitaires, médico-sociales ou autres au niveau local, le projet s’est enrichi de partenaires académiques (Université d’Oxford, Sorbonne Université – IUIS Institut Universitaire d’Ingénierie en Santé) et du soutien et du travail en réseau proposé par EIT Health

Accélérer la création de solutions locales autour de l’accouchement

Le programme de bourses de l’Université d’Oxford forme des équipes multidisciplinaires avec des compétences très qualitatives en médecine, conception, ingénierie et entrepreneuriat, afin de faire progresser la prochaine génération autour des technologies de la santé. Huit programmes européens sont actuellement en place dans le cadre d’EIT Health.

La fondation Sanofi Espoir en partenariat avec l’Université d’Oxford et l’Université Paris- Sorbonne ont identifié en 2019 l’opportunité d’appliquer cette méthodologie « Needs-Led Innovation » au contexte de la santé maternelle et néonatale au Sénégal et d’associer l’Hôpital Régional et l’université de Saint-Louis dans cette démarche pour observer son impact sur les déterminants de la mortalité maternelle et néonatale et si nécessaire l’ajuster aux besoins locaux, afin d’en faire un outil d’innovation pérenne.

Le programme « Needs-Led Innovation Fellowship  » encourage les processus de gestion du changement et crée un environnement favorable au sein des organisations de soins locales, permettant une adoption plus rapide des innovations. En effet, pour la 1^e fois en Afrique, une équipe multidisciplinaire utilisera la méthodologie de « Needs-Led Innovation » centrée sur les besoins pour identifier et mettre en place des solutions spécifiques au sein de l’écosystème d’un hôpital. Tous les acteurs du projets « Needs-Led innovation » partagent un objectif global : démontrer l’impact positif de la méthodologie d’innovation axée sur les besoins via un pilote de cas d’utilisation dans le monde réel au Sénégal.

Needs -Led Innovation Fellowship : les premiers pas de Myra, Sall et Mihir

Du 5 au 22 novembre, la Fondation Sanofi Espoir  a organisé un premier voyage, à Dakar et Saint Louis, avec Oxford et Artémédis pour rencontrer les parties prenantes et leur expliquer le projet. Le programme pilote de bourses « Needs-Led Innovation » à l’hôpital de St Louis a été favorablement accueilli par de nombreux partenaires locaux. En parallèle, les partenaires du projet ont recruté un bon trio pluridisciplinaire de boursiers avec des compétences très complémentaires pour mener à bien leurs missions.

Le Bootcamp de trois semaines a donc débuté en janvier  et a permis à la Fondation Sanofi Espoir d’accueillir deux jours à Paris à Myra, Sall et Mihir. Les trois jeunes ont ainsi découvert l’engagement et les missions de la Fondation, ses programmes de protection maternelle et infantile en présence de Gynécologie Sans Frontière, Saegus et Oxford afin de bien expliquer l’historique de ce qui a été réalisé au Sénégal notamment le projet initiateur « Accélérer l’impact local ».

La période de 5 semaines d’immersion pour les trois boursiers a débuté le 27 janvier au sein de l’hôpital Saint Louis -Sénégal afin d’identifier les besoins.

Needs -Led Innovation Fellowship: a project driving sustainable innovation and providing concrete solutions at the regional hospital of Saint-Louis in Senegal.

On January the 27th, 2020, 3 scholarship students: Myra, Sall & Mihir started a 5-week immersion at the Saint Louis Regional Hospital in Senegal. As a matter of fact in the continuity of the project “Accelerating Local Impact” to improve maternal and child health in this region started by the Sanofi Espoir Foundation, EIT Health France Affiliated party partner through Sanofi, is supporting a 6-month study mission, from February to July 2020, for 3 scolarship holders of the “Needs -Led Innovation Fellowship” of Oxford University, and supported by EIT Health.

Improving maternal and neonatal health: a project in line with the initiatives of the Sanofi Espoir Foundation

Starting in 2018, the Sanofi Espoir Foundation in partnership with the non-profit humanitarian organization WAHA / Artemedis and the Acceleration Tactics department of the consulting firm Saegus in the department of Saint-Louis, Senegal have conducted several missions in the Saint-Louis region to better understand the experience of women within their ecosystem and to identify the deciding factors of maternal and neonatal health. Artemedis is a non-profit medical organization that strives to provide access to quality medical care to disadvantaged communities around the world. The organization works to reduce maternal mortality by providing medical treatment and training health care workers. Through various explorations, analyses and initial methodology for estimating the impact of health, medico-social and other interventions at the local level, the project has been enriched by academic partners (Oxford University, Sorbonne University – IUIS Institut Universitaire d’Ingénierie en Santé) and the support and networking offered by EIT health.

Accelerate the creation of local solutions around childbirth

The Oxford University Program builds multidisciplinary teams with high quality skills in medicine, design, engineering and entrepreneurship to advance the next generation around health technologies. Eight European programmes are currently in place under EIT Health.

In 2019, the Sanofi Espoir Foundation, in partnership with the University of Oxford and the University of Paris-Sorbonne, identified the opportunity to apply the “Needs-Led Innovation” methodology to the context of maternal and neonatal health in Senegal and to associate the Regional Hospital and the University of Saint-Louis in this approach in order to observe its impact on the key factors of maternal and neonatal mortality and, if necessary, adjust it to local needs, in order to make it a sustainable innovation tool.

The Global Insight Fellowship programme encourages change management processes and creates a supportive environment within local healthcare organizations, enabling faster adoption of innovations. For the first time in Africa, a multidisciplinary team will use the needs-based Needs-Led Innovation methodology to identify and implement specific solutions within a hospital ecosystem. All the actors of the Needs-Led Innovation project share a global objective: to demonstrate the positive impact of the Needs-Led Innovation methodology through a real-world use case pilot in Senegal.

Needs -Led Innovation Fellowship: The first steps of Myra, Sall and Mihir

From November 5 to 22, the Sanofi Espoir Foundation organized a first trip to Dakar and Saint Louis with Oxford and Artémédis to meet stakeholders and explain the project to them. The pilot program of “Needs-Led Innovation” grants at St. Louis Hospital was favorably received by many local partners. At the same time, the project partners recruited a good multidisciplinary trio of fellows with highly complementary skills to carry out their missions.

The three-week Bootcamp thus began in January and enabled the Sanofi Espoir Foundation to host two days in Paris at Myra, Sall and Mihir. The three young people discovered the Foundation’s commitment and missions and its maternal and child protection programs in the presence of Gynecology Without Borders, Saegus and Oxford, in order to explain the history of what has been achieved in Senegal, in particular the initiating project “Accelerating local impact”.

The 5-week immersion period for the three fellows started on January 27th at the Saint Louis Hospital -Senegal in order to identify the needs.
