Le 21 octobre 2020, les journées de l’innovation, « i-Days », supportées par EIT Health et déployées lors de 35 évènements dans 22 pays, se sont déroulées, pour la première fois, à Nice- France. Cet événement a été co-organisé par le Centre Hospitalo – Universitaire (CHU) de Nice et 3IA Côte d’Azur (Institut Interdisciplinaire d’Intelligence Artificielle) sur la thématique ; Intelligence Artificielle (IA) et santé. C’est une belle opportunité d’avoir pour la première fois un hôpital en pilote pour les i-Days et un 3ème i-Day en France (Paris, Grenoble, Nice).

Les Journées de l’innovation sont des programmes courts organisés par des universités, des incubateurs et des entreprises de premier plan du réseau EIT Health. C’est un événement efficace pour engager et inspirer les participants dans le domaine de l’innovation en santé. Cette année plus de 2000 jeunes recevront une introduction aux outils pratiques d’innovation en matière de santé et travailleront au sein d’équipes multidisciplinaires pour relever des défis développer des idées et proposer des solutions susceptibles de favoriser une vie saine et un vieillissement actif en Europe.

Malgré la pandémie et grâce à un calendrier favorable l’événement “Intelligence Artificielle en Santé” s’est tenu, en présentiel, à l’hôpital Pasteur de Nice. Cette journée très riche a débuté par des exposés des titulaires des Chaires du 3IA Côte d’Azur.

Ils ont mis l’accent sur l’apprentissage fédéré : comment faire de l’IA en utilisant des données de santé issues de différents centres hospitaliers sans avoir besoin de les sortir de ces centres.

Les intervenants ont aussi abordé comment utiliser les données patients, données biologiques, cliniques ou d’imagerie et comment les utiliser ensemble pour guider le diagnostic, le pronostic, la thérapie ou comment faire un jumeau numérique du patient et comment l’utiliser pour faire de la médecine numérique pour aider le médecin, le chirurgien.

A la suite de ces exposés, des étudiants en thèse et en post doctorat des Chaires du 3IA ont fait des pitchs très courts et dynamiques sur les recherches qu’ils sont en train de mener en rapport avec les Chaires présentées précédemment.

La deuxième partie de l’événement a été consacré aux challenges dans le cadre des i-Days. Des équipes hospitalières ont présenté des projets d’IA pour la santé qui traitaient de problèmes qui pouvaient être liés au cancer, à des pathologies, à la prise de médicament ou à des mesures sur le patient, par exemple mesures sur le niveau de douleur ou mesures morphométriques pour rendre les examens plus faciles et même éviter son déplacement vers les hôpitaux.

Les professionnels ont chacun disposé de 3 minutes pour convaincre le jury, composé de:

La remise de prix a permis de féliciter avec le soutien d’EIT Health France, les 3 pitcheurs sélectionnés par le jury: Pr Denys Fontaine, Dr Marc-Olivier Gauci et Stéphanie Lopez et de mettre en lumière leurs projets :

1 : Denys fontaine : « L’intelligence artificielle pour évaluer la douleur post-opératoire des patients à partir de leur expression faciale » (Projet Interface)

2 Marc Olivier Gauci : « Mesures corporelles faciles en consultation : le multimètre ‘intelligent’ »

3 Stéphanie Lopez : « Caractérisation des nodules pulmonaires sur des scanners thoraciques dans le cadre du dépistage du cancer du poumon, basée sur des algorithmes d’intelligence artificielle »

Chaque lauréat a été conviés à partager les échanges lors du EIT Health Summit afin de mieux appréhender l’écosystème EIT Health et de comprendre les opportunités possibles d’accompagnement pour son projet. Le gagnant participera à la finale des I Days en parallèle du Summit et partagera son projet.

Nice gives the autumn kick-off to the I-Days 2020 in France

On 21 October 2020, the “i-Days” (innovation days), supported by EIT Health and deployed at 35 events in 22 countries, took place for the first time in Nice, France. This event was co-organised by the Centre Hospitalo – Universitaire (CHU) Nice and 3IA Côte d’Azur (Institut Interdisciplinaire d’Intelligence Artificielle) on the theme; Artificial Intelligence (AI) and health. It was a great opportunity to have for the first time a pilot hospital for i-Days and a 3rd i-Day in France (Paris, Grenoble, Nice).

The Innovation Days are short programmes organised by leading universities, incubators and companies in the EIT Health network. It is an effective event to engage and inspire participants in the field of health innovation. This year more than 2000 young people will receive an introduction to practical tools for health innovation and will work in multidisciplinary teams to take up challenges, develop ideas and suggest solutions to support healthy living and active ageing in Europe.

Despite the pandemic but thanks to an advantageous calendar, the “Artificial Intelligence in Health” event was held face-to-face at the Pasteur Hospital in Nice. This very rich day began with presentations by the holders of the 3IA Côte d’Azur Chairs.

They focused on federated learning: how to do AI using health data from different hospital centres without having to take it out of these centres.

The speakers also discussed how to use patient, biological, clinical or imaging data and how to use them together to guide diagnosis, prognosis, therapy or how to make a digital twin of the patient and how to use it to make digital medicine to help the doctor or the surgeon.

Following these presentations, thesis and post-doctoral students of the 3IA Chairs made very short and dynamic pitches on the research they are carrying out in relation to the Chairs presented above.

The second part of the event was dedicated to the challenges in the framework of i-Days. Hospital teams presented AI projects for health that dealt with problems that could be related to cancer, pathologies, taking medication or measurements on the patient, for example measurements on pain levels or morphometric measurements to make examinations easier and even avoid the patient’s travel to hospitals.

Each Physician had 3 minutes to convince the jury, composed of:

The award ceremony was an opportunity to congratulate, with the support of EIT Health France, the 3 pitchers selected by the jury: Pr Denys Fontaine, Dr Marc-Olivier Gauci and Stéphanie Lopez and to highlight their projects:

1: Denys Fontaine: “Artificial intelligence to evaluate post-operative pain in patients based on their facial expression” (Interface Project)

2 Marc Olivier Gauci: “Body measurements that are easy to consult: the ‘intelligent’ multimeter”.

3 Stéphanie Lopez: “Characterisation of pulmonary nodules on thoracic scanners in the context of lung cancer screening, based on artificial intelligence algorithms”.

Each laureate was invited to share exchanges at the EIT Health Summit in order to better understand the EIT Health ecosystem and the possible opportunities for support for their project. The winner, D. Fontaine, will take part in the final of the I -Days in parallel with the Summit and will share his project.
