EIT Health soutient la solution innovante de Meditect qui garantit la traçabilité et l’authenticité des médicaments.

Meditect, start-up française en santé numérique basée à Bordeaux, vient de sécuriser sa première levée de fonds de 1,5M€ et compte 15 employés en France et en Côte d’Ivoire. Soutenue et accélérée par EIT Health en 2019 via le programme Headstart, Meditect utilise la chaîne de distribution et l’intelligence artificielle pour développer des solutions numériques qui garantissent la traçabilité et l’authenticité des médicaments tout au long de la chaîne de distribution, pour un accès facilité à des médicaments de qualité. Meditect a récemment été sélectionné pour le programme EIT Health Bridgehead Global afin d’étendre ses activités à la Chine et à l’Inde en 2020.

Meditect, leader de la traçabilité des médicaments en Afrique subsaharienne, a été fondé en 2018 pour apporter une solution à l’un des principaux problèmes de santé publique dans le monde : la contrefaçon de médicaments. La solution de Meditect est basée sur la sérialisation appliquée aux médicaments exportés, et utilise la technologie « Blockchain » pour garantir une information transparente et solide. Elle permet aux patients et aux pharmaciens de vérifier l’authenticité des médicaments grâce à des applications gratuites, accessibles notamment sur les smartphones.

Depuis 2019, Meditect travaille en partenariat avec l’UPSA pour sécuriser le médicament le plus utilisé en Afrique francophone.

En 2019, Meditect a été soutenue par EIT Health via le programme Headstart, pour accélérer son accès au marché grâce à une subvention de 50 000 euros et un soutien sur mesure dans l’élaboration de son plan de projet.

Plus récemment cette année, Meditect a été sélectionnée pour participer à un autre programme de EIT Health, Bridgehead Global. Ce programme soutient les start-ups dans leur expansion commerciale au-delà de l’Europe en leur donnant accès au vaste réseau d’accélérateurs, de clusters et d’incubateurs partenaires d’EIT Health dans le monde entier. Grâce à ce programme, Meditect aura l’opportunité de collaborer avec le réseau pharmaceutique indien qui représente 30% des parts de marché en Afrique. Le financement accordé permettra de couvrir les frais commerciaux de la société.

Le 6 mai 2020, Meditect a annoncé la clôture de sa première levée de fonds institutionnelle avec LBO France.  Grâce à cette collaboration, la start-up devrait bénéficier du savoir-faire et du réseau de LBO France pour accélérer son développement technologique, commercial et géographique.

Spotlight on the success of Meditect, an EIT Health-supported start-up leader in medicines traceability

EIT Health supports Meditect’s innovative solution to guarantee the traceability and authenticity of medicines.

Meditect, a French digital health start-up based in Bordeaux, just secured its first institutional fundraising of €1.5M with LBO France and has 15 employees in France and Ivory Coast. Supported and accelerated by EIT Health in 2019 via the Headstart programme, Meditect uses blockchain and artificial intelligence to develop digital solutions which guarantee the traceability and the authenticity of medicines along the distribution chain, for a better access to quality medicines. Meditect was recently selected for the EIT Health Bridgehead Global programme to expand its business to China and India in 2020.

Meditect, leader in medicine traceability in sub-Saharan Africa, was founded in 2018 to provide a solution to one of the world’s major public health problems: falsified medicines. Meditect’s solution is based on serialisation applied to exported medicines and uses Blockchain technology to guarantee transparent and robust information. It enables patients and pharmacists to check the authenticity of medicines thanks to free applications, accessible on smartphones.

Since 2019, Meditect has been working in partnerships with UPSA to secure the most widely used medicine in French-speaking Africa.

In 2019, Meditect was supported by EIT Health via the Headstart programme, to accelerate its market access thanks to a €50,000 grant and tailor-made support in the development of its project plan.

Recently this year, Meditect was selected to participate in another EIT Health programme, Bridgehead Global. This programme supports start-ups in their business expansion beyond Europe by giving them access to EIT Health’s extensive network of accelerators, clusters and incubators throughout the world. Through this programme, Meditect will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Indian pharmaceutical network, which represents 30% of market shares in Africa. The funding will help cover the company’s commercial costs.

On 6 May 2020, Meditect announced closing its first institutional fundraising round with LBO France.  Through this collaboration, the start-up should benefit from LBO France’s know-how and network to speed-up its technological, commercial and geographical development.
