RIS Hub in Romania promotes EIT Health and innovation in healthcare

Raising awareness of innovation in healthcare in the emerging markets

In November and December, FreshBlood HealthTech Community, the RIS Hub based in Cluj-Napoca in Romania, arranged a series of events raising awareness and promoting EIT Health programmes for students, start-ups and other professionals.

EIT Innovation Day in Cluj-Napoca:

EIT Health Innovation Day was an event that took place in the School of Public Health in Cluj-Napoca and brought together teams of students to compete in a pitching competition. Local NGOs challenged teams of students to tackle local problems in the healthcare field through innovative solutions. After two days of preparation, the event kicked off. There were 60 participants, ten teams, each gathering three to seven members, all of whichc had three-minutes to present their pitch in front of a qualified jury led by a representative of EIT Health.

The Jury awarded the first three places to the best teams which presented their unique approach to solving the given problems. The awards represent sums of money to encourage young talents to further develop and improve their ideas.

EIT Health Awareness Day in Cluj-Napoca:

Focusing on fostering European healthcare innovators and innovation, during the Awareness Day, FreshBlood HealthTech Community, one of the RIS Hubs, presented the programmes available to students, young specialists and start-ups, and listened to the experiences of those who participated in the EIT Health Programmes in 2018 so far.

Together with Beata Kurucz, who represented EIT Health Innostars, FreshBlood HealthTech Community talked about EIT Health opportunities for healthcare innovators and start-ups. In the second part of the event, the speakers shared meaningful experiences and advice with the participants. The speakers were: Timis Horea – CEO Doctoralis – GoToChina 2018 EITHealth winner; Oana Motea – EITHealth Starship Fellow 2018 (winner); Sveatoslav Veaceslav – EITHealth Starship Fellow 2018 (winner) and Wello Co-Founder.

Followed by a session of networking, the event was engaging and the participants showed high interest in the opportunities EIT Health has to offer for 2019.

Healthcare Innovation for medical students in Bucharest:

During the International Medical Students Congress at Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, FreshBlood HealthTech Community held a lecture on how to better prepare for the new environment comprising digital medicine as well as a workshop focused on healthcare innovation with ideas selected by international student teams. The engagement was very high and the participants were very eager to learn a new perspective on their environment and opportunities to innovate within EIT Health.
