EIT Health, in partnership with Abbott, has launched the second in a series of challenges and is actively seeking a solution to enable remote cognitive testing for paediatric clinical trials. The goal is to develop a digital platform that facilitates cognitive assessments without the need for a trained administrator, overcoming the logistical and cost-related barriers of traditional in-person testing.
We are looking for solutions that can:
- Provide validated cognitive tests tailored for paediatric populations (ages 1–10 years) administered remotely via phone, tablet, or computer.
- Offer secure, regulatory-compliant (HIPAA, GDPR) assessments that maintain data integrity and patient privacy.
- Incorporate features such as gamification, multilingual support and the ability to integrate with existing clinical trial management systems.
Cognitive tests are usually administered in clinical settings by trained professionals, which can be time-consuming, costly, and limit access for those unable to travel. While remote testing offers logistical benefits and broader inclusion, it still faces limitations in test variety and assessment depth.
The ideal solution would be a user-friendly digital platform that enables remote cognitive testing in clinical trials, providing assessments of memory, reasoning, processing speed, problem-solving, and vocabulary. The platform should be designed for ease of use by paediatric patients, caregivers, clinical trial coordinators, and scientists.
A fully functional remote cognitive testing platform is expected to be available by 2026.
