EIT to support EIT Health for a further seven years

25th August 2022

Following a comprehensive assessment of our strategic performance and achievements from 2015 – 2021, EIT have confirmed the partnership agreement between EIT and EIT Health will continue for a further seven years.

The assessment, which evaluated the first seven years of business operations, reviewed several key areas from across EIT Health and compared the goals set out in our business plans and strategic agendas with the demonstrable achievements made during this time. Several areas of strengths were specifically called out, including the alignment of our activities with EU objectives, the essential synergies we have created and the pan-European value we have created with respect to building a sustainable health ecosystem.

Several strategic recommendations were also made. Some of these will be addressed through the introduction of our flagship programmes but there are other priorities we will be looking to address in respect of how we measure impact and some of our governance processes. We will be reporting back to the EIT Governance Board on these in December.

Jean-Marc Bourez, Interim CEO, EIT Health said: “This is a fantastic outcome for EIT Health. Everything we do is focused on becoming Europe’s leading innovation platform, facilitating longer, healthier lives and more sustainable healthcare systems. Whilst there are improvements to be made in some areas, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff and Partners for their hard work, support, and commitment to EIT Health and the patients and citizens we serve, to ensure that we were successful in gaining this support and funding for another seven years.”

Martin Kern, EIT Director, said: “I would like to thank the EIT Health team for their support and contribution to the seven-year assessment. We look forward to continuing to work together to enhance and sustain the largest health innovation ecosystem in Europe.”

EIT Health will continue to receive funding from EIT for the next seven years, at which point it is intended that we will be financially independent.
