Headstart Awardee OptiMedis joins forces with BKK Werra-Weißner to establish integrated care in Northern Hesse

Fostering an integrated care system in a German region

OptiMedis AG received one of EIT Health Germany’s Headstart grants in 2017. The OptiMedis AG, a management company for population-based integrated care system (IC) in Germany and other European countries (flagship projects: “Gesundes Kinzigtal” and Gesundheit für Billstedt-Horn”) and the Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar (MRN) are planning to implement an ICS for 2.4 million inhabitants.

BKK Werra-Meißner and OptiMedis AG want to jointly establish an integrated, population-oriented care system in the northern Hessian district of Werra-Meißner. In May 2018, the partners concluded a long-term, performance-related contract with a partial assumption of budget responsibility in accordance with § 140 a SGB V (German Social Code).

Together with the district, medical networks, social institutions and economic development, the partners are now planning to build up a comprehensive health network based on the model of Gesundes Kinzigtal in Baden-Württemberg in order to make care better and more economical.

The region has a population of 100,715. BKK Werra-Meißner has a share of almost 25 percent of those insured with statutory health insurance and a great interest in improving and securing regional care.
