2019 Health Venture Lab Grand Final in Budapest

One of the best European healthtech accelerator programmes powered by EIT Health InnoStars and GE Healthcare has just been summed up

On 19 October 2019, in Budapest, EIT Health together with Health Venture Lab (HVL) and GE Healthcare organised “Supercharging Your Health” Demo Day, the summarising event of the international healthcare accelerator programme.

EIT Health Venture Lab (HVL) is an international healthcare accelerator, backed by GE Healthcare, one of the EIT Health Partners and powered by EIT Health InnoStars. The organisation helps MVP stage healthcare start-ups to gain traction, attain deep healthcare and business knowledge, and allow the opportunity to access a supportive network. The Financial Times backed publication – Sifted, has listed HVL among the best healthtech accelerators in Europe. “Expert healthcare knowledge, a traction focused path and an international community helps you reach the full potential of your business”, said one of the HVL participants.

During Demo Day, which was part of the Grand Final of the Health Venture Lab competition, participants were able to meet start-ups and learn more about their business ideas. They were trained for six months in order to finally present their products in front of a large audience. At the event, there were two panel discussions and a series of key note speeches. During the first such speech, EIT Health InnoStars Managing Director Balázs Fürjes gave an overview on the approach of start-ups, which were represented by EIT Health.

The second Round Table was focused on the challenges of healthcare start-ups, key drivers of innovation, and the competitive ecosystem built around innovative solutions for healthcare. In the debate, all prominent representatives of the healthcare sector took part: Lilla Jutkusz from the University of Debrecen, Erőss György from GE Healthcare, Marcin Ciszewski from the Medical University of Łódź, Lech Ignatowicz from Biopromic and Tamas Bekasi from EIT Health InnoStars. The highlight of the evening was when, eight HVL finalists had the opportunity to pitch their solutions in front of the jury team, with Tamás Békási representing EIT Health, as well as representatives of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and GE Healthcare. The result was a close call, but in the end the first prize was awarded to Medicsen with Biopromic in the second place. Amblyo Play received the audience award.
