Kiosks provide ‘on demand pharmacy’ to help supply medicine to citizens during pandemic

Dr Poket, an innovation supported by EIT Health, is leasing their kiosks, which can automatically dispense medicine, take people’s temperature and allow for remote telemedicine consultations. Dr Poket suggests the kiosks could be useful for organisations such as governments, pharmaceutical companies and pharmacies who may, either need help meeting increased demand for medicine, or an alternative method for offering medication due to social distancing restrictions.

The HealthPoint kiosks can help with the COVID-19 outbreak by:

• Speeding up and maximising opportunities for initial diagnosis – by measuring temperature and providing telemedicine consultations
• Eliminating the need for direct touch – customers using the device can activate it using voice control and owners can operate it via mobile application or the web platform
• Helping to avoid crowding in pharmacies
• Educating citizens in aspects such as compliance with relevant hygiene principles and recent health updates related to COVID-19
• Helping the overstretched pharmacy and general practitioner workforce – HealthPoint works reliably with many different types of medication.

Functionality:

Dispensing medicine: The HealthPoint kiosk dispenses single pills in medicine cups for immediate use as well as regular products in packages. It is equipped with a quality check system – taking into consideration information such as the humidity, temperature, and expiration dates of all products.  It holds up to 30,000 pills and can easily expand, thanks to its modular structure.

Checking temperature: Each device is plugged into an AI and analytics platform and equipped with AI cameras that can be used to verify a person’s temperature. After their temperature is measured, the device dispenses appropriate medications, offers personalised advice and, where relevant, connects the person with a doctor to conduct a consultation.

 Analysing real-time stock levels and customer data: More than being just a dispensary, each smart telemedicine kiosk is connected to a custom, tailor-made web platform that presents customers with detailed information about all drug contraindications and precautions and even checks for possible dangerous interactions with other medications the patient may be taking. Owners of the kiosk will be able to use the real-time data to better monitor stock levels, therefore benefiting from savings in distribution costs. The data could also help them to better understand their customers’ m needs.

The devices are currently available on lease.  Dr Poket will manage software and hardware improvements, dependent on each partners’ needs.
