Every day, millions of patients and healthcare providers in Europe create and collect a huge amount of health-related information.
This data holds profound insights on diseases, therapy response and indications of effective utilisation of resources. Accessing and interpreting this data will help unlock valuable knowledge so we can improve our healthcare systems and patient outcomes.
There is an urgent need to find solutions, so we can accurately plan for the future of healthcare delivery and capabilities in the digital age. Common challenges include: formulating codes of conduct with roles, responsibilities, consent and ethics in private-public partnerships; enabling interoperability and data analytics through software and algorithms, while establishing dynamic consent models; and governance frameworks for collaborative data-sharing.
Round table series on big data
Healthcare providers and payers, innovators, researchers and industry partners from across our network and beyond joined three 2018 Think Tank Round Table Meetings in Spain, the UK and Scandinavia to discuss how to appropriately harness the power of big data to improve healthcare.
Recommended outcomes included the proposed launch of the EIT Health Data Space, which would address numerous Big Data issues such as harmonisation of data formats, best practice, and dynamic consent models; while supporting the delivery of health and care solutions, providing training and education of healthcare professionals, and rolling out public-facing communications.
