Europe is at a turning point in healthcare. With the rising costs of healthcare delivery, fragmented datasets and the slow adaptation and change of healthcare systems, the time to act is now.
Reflecting this urgency, EIT Health structures our core business activities across the areas that are most needed: each of our Flagships contributes to some of the top health priorities identified in Europe.
Our Flagship Calls invite our communities, and beyond, to work with us on tackling specific challenges relating to these health priority areas. If you’re seeking funding, collaborators or support to bring your ideas to life, read on to find out more.

Biel Glasses: Smart glasses for the visually impaired
EIT Health helped Biel Glasses realise their idea through our Patient Innovation Bootcamp. Jaume Puig and his wife, Dr Constanza Lucero, were inspired to innovate by a desire to help their son, Biel, who has low vision, commonly known as tunnel vision. They went on to develop Biel Glasses, which are smart glasses that use 3D vision and artificial intelligence algorithms to detect obstacles for wearers. The solution enables people with low vision to navigate the world more independently, transforming their lives.

The “Supporting the deployment of Important Projects of Common European Interest in Health (IPCEI) to address market failures” initiative will be rolled into the “Re-industrialisation of Europe” Flagship, to be launched next year. It will have an expanded scope, addressing two challenges: a focus on equipping Europe with a strong, innovative and export-friendly healthcare industry, alongside developing lasting and innovative European manufacturing capabilities regarding critical products, notably pharmaceuticals.
A call will be launched in 2024 once the European Commission notifies the EC-selected IPCEI projects to be complemented with the EIT Health partner network.
