Scaling and enhancing Prosoma coverage in DACH

The challenge

More than 50% of cancer patients experience severe mental health issues[1], leading to a 113% increase in treatment costs[2], decreased adherence to treatment, and lessened survivorship.

Rates of major depressive disorder are up to three times higher in cancer patients compared to the general population[3]. This distress can reduce overall quality of life, negatively affecting physical, emotional, and social well-being. Numerous studies show that mental health conditions can worsen cancer treatment outcomes; for instance, depression and anxiety are linked to disease recurrence and increased mortality in breast cancer patients[4]. Depressed individuals are also less likely to follow medical advice, maintain exercise routines, and are more prone to substance abuse[5].

Currently, no healthcare system globally can effectively address these intertwined issues, presenting an ongoing opportunity for improvement in patient care. Prosoma is revolutionising oncology care by addressing this critical gap and enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients through mental health and nutrition programs that result in significant reduction in treatment costs.

The solution

The Living Well Plus solution is a unique digital program offering clinically validated psychological and behavioural support tailored for all cancer types. Delivered via a CE-certified app and personalised tele-coaching, it offers instant, scalable mental health care from the moment of diagnosis onward to significantly decrease anxiety, stress, and depression among oncology patients by 25-50%[6].

The platform features interactive CBT-based modules delivered in multiple languages, including gender-specific content, to foster continuous engagement. Connectable with trained psychologists, it ensures personalised support, motivation, and ongoing therapy.

For insurers and healthcare providers, the solution ensures significant cost savings through improved treatment adherence and reduced hospital readmissions, offering an ROI of up to 3.9x.

Expected impact

Prosoma plans to expand into a comprehensive virtual clinic that covers mental health, nutrition, and physical therapy, creating holistic care accessible to everyone.

With the EIT Health grant, Prosoma will focus on extending the service offering of the Living Well Plus platform beyond 12 months, reaching more patients at different stages of treatment across the DACH (Germany, Switzerland, Austria) region, while building out sales capabilities and partnership network to maximise  impact in cancer care.
