Help shape the future of the EIT: European Commission launches public consultation.

Stakeholders are invited to share their views on the future of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology and its role in strengthening Europe’s innovation ecosystems. Feedback can be shared with EIT Health by 10 September or submitted directly to the European Commission by 23 September 2026. 

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on the revision of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Regulation, alongside the development of the EIT Strategic Innovation Agenda for 2028–2034. 

Together, the revised Regulation and Strategic Innovation Agenda will establish the EIT’s legal basis and strategic direction for the next seven-year period. They will help shape how the EIT and its Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) contribute to Europe’s competitiveness, innovation capacity and ability to translate knowledge into impact. 

Have your say on the future of the EIT 

The consultation gives stakeholders across education, research, business and innovation an opportunity to share their views on how the EIT and its KICs can deliver greater impact for Europe. 

The European Commission is seeking feedback on several key areas, including: 

• Strengthening Europe’s competitiveness: How can the EIT and its KICs further strengthen innovation ecosystems, improve knowledge-triangle integration and accelerate the translation of knowledge into market impact? 

• Attracting talent and innovators: How can the EIT make Europe more attractive to talent, innovators and entrepreneurs while reinforcing its long-term innovation capacity? 

• Working across EU innovation programmes: How can the EIT and its KICs collaborate more effectively with other EU innovation instruments and financial programmes, ensuring complementary and coherent support while avoiding overlap? 

• Improving funding and implementation: What changes could increase flexibility, strengthen governance, reduce complexity and improve support for ecosystem-building, entrepreneurial skills and early-stage innovation? 

• Protecting EU interests and ethical standards: How can KICs ensure closer alignment with the protection of the EU’s financial interests and ethical rules? 

Two ways to contribute 

Stakeholders can contribute to the consultation process in two ways. 

1. Share your feedback with EIT Health by 10 September

We would welcome feedback from our members and across our network to help inform EIT Health’s response to the consultation. Please share any views, priorities or concerns you would like us to consider by 10 September by reaching out to external.communications@eithealth.eu 

Your feedback will be reflected in our response to ensure the perspectives of the EIT Health community are represented. 

2. Respond directly to the European Commission by 23 September

Stakeholders can also prepare and submit their own response directly through the European Commission’s public consultation platform.
