Optimising early intervention for improving workplace health

Get Help Now streamlines and digitalises early intervention in work disability by detecting employees at high risk, either before they become sick, at first manifestation or when they are at risk of chronification. Employees covered by Get Help Now will have an appointment by the most appropriate healthcare provider within a week. Using a unifying backbone and user-interface architecture, Get Help Now adapts disease- and country-specific workflow to eliminate various ways of treatment.

The consortium consists of a variety of international partners which contribute with very different skillsets to the success of the project. Led by AbbVie, the consortium also includes Heidelberg University, Salud Madrid, Erasmus Medical Centre Rotterdam, Central Institute of Mental Health, Fraunhofer Society and HealthVision GmbH.

The preliminary activities began in the past few months in order to bring the right organisations and stakeholders together to advance healthcare solutions and efficient intervention. Get Help Now links the health value chain starting from the occupational service to the specialist, and is designed by a streamlined patient perspective to simplify the process.

The project is currently piloting and beta-testing in two German regions of 40 km in diameter each; around Heidelberg, Ludwigshafen, Mannheim as well as around Gaggenau, Baden-Baden, Karlsruhe. For the time being, the medical focus lies on mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety and burnout, as well as acute and chronic musculoskeletal disorders and pain.

The business case of prevention and early intervention is clear and the Get Help Now project aims to contribute in a considerable way to the improvement of the situation by collaborating with companies, healthcare professionals and health insurers.

The first public presentation (in the form of a poster – download below) of the Get Help Now project at the “Bundesverband Managed Care Congress” was given in March 2018 by Prof. Dr. med. Joachim Fischer from the Heidelberg University.
