EIT Health RIS Hubs added in Slovenia, Estonia to help build innovation ecosystem in Europe

21st February 2019

There are now 14 Hubs in 13 countries

Tartu Biotechnoloogia Park in Estonia and Ljubljana University Incubator in Slovenia became the latest two organisations to join in EIT Health’s network of Regional Innovation Scheme Hubs.

Following a call by the EIT Health Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) in January, several Estonian and Slovenian organisations applied to establish new EIT Health Hubs in these countries.

The two winners will join other EIT Health RIS Hubs in:

  • taking part in the implementation of the EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) programme from 2019;
  • developing the local innovation ecosystem with the help of EIT Health and foster the cooperation among local KTI actors;
  • helping EIT Health find the best talents, entrepreneurs as well as the most innovative projects, ideas and start-ups from their region/country.

With these two new institutions on board, EIT Health has established 14 RIS Hubs in 13 countries across Europe. A gathering of representatives from these Hubs is shown in the photo above.

EIT RIS helps to increase innovation capacity in areas of Europe not directly benefitting from the activities of EIT Health. EIT RIS Hubs roll-out EIT Health activities and programmes, share best practices and promote the Knowledge Triangle Integration (KTI) concept.

The objective of the EIT RIS is to contribute to boosting the ability to innovate of countries and regions in Europe that belong to the groups of so-called ‘modest and moderate’ innovators (according to the European Innovation Scoreboard).
