20th August 2019

Non-adherence to medical plans by seniors is considered an important problems in developed countries.

On 10-14 September, the University of Porto, through Porto4Ageing, organised a Summer School in the Faculty of Pharmacy funded by European Commission.

This international teaching and learning activity was promoted within the scope of the international Skills4Adherence Project, which aims to create digital pedagogical tools to promote accession to treatments and to assist in the management of polypharmacy. These tools will be made available to students and healthcare professionals for free.

Coordinated by the Medical University of Lodz (Poland) and having as partners the ICS Maugeri Institute (Italy) and the University of Porto (Portugal), ten participants selected from each country joined this training.

Around 30 European experts in the area of adherence and polypharmacy, part of the action group A1 (Adherence to medical plans) of European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Aging joined on the last day as well.

Funded by the ERASMUS + programme, the Skills4Adherence project started in 2017. In Portugal, the project is coordinated by Elísio Costa, professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Porto, one of the coordinators of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Aging and coordinator of Porto4Ageing.
