EIT Health Morning Health Talks Return to Sarajevo

Sarajevo, 28 May 2025 – The second edition of EIT Health Morning Health Talks in Bosnia and Herzegovina marked a pivotal moment in the national conversation on personalised medicine and digital innovation in healthcare. Organised by EIT Health InnoStars in close collaboration with the Verlab Institute (Sarajevo), the event brought together leaders from healthcare, academia, and public institutions to explore the integration of AI-powered solutions into clinical practice, with a spotlight on oncology as a leading field of application.

The event attracted prominent figures including the Minister of Health of Sarajevo Canton, the Director General of the Health Insurance Institute, and the Director of Science and Education at the Clinical Centre of the University of Sarajevo. Their attendance underscored the significance of the topic and the country’s readiness to engage in forward-looking healthcare dialogue.

Delivering the keynote speech, Professor Dr Marek Ussowicz of the Medical University of Wroclaw (Poland) shared best practices from Poland, detailing how his institution has successfully advanced personalised oncology. By strategically aligning academic research, clinical implementation, and access to EU funding, the Wroclaw model demonstrates how regional healthcare systems can effectively transition towards more tailored and effective care pathways.

In the subsequent panel discussion, “Personalised Medicine in Oncology in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, experts acknowledged that Bosnia and Herzegovina currently faces infrastructural gaps—particularly in genomics, bioinformatics, and bioethics. Panellists agreed that immediate priorities include professional development for healthcare providers and regulatory updates that will allow modern technologies to be safely and effectively embedded in clinical workflows.

More than a platform for dialogue, EIT Health Morning Health Talks Sarajevo also laid the foundations for future international collaboration. Delegates initiated continued cooperation with the Medical University of Wroclaw to advance the use of health data, implement AI-driven clinical tools, and foster progress in personalised medicine within Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Participants also emphasised the critical role of the EIT Health Network in catalysing these developments—providing access to cutting-edge innovation, fostering strategic partnerships, and connecting Bosnia and Herzegovina with Europe’s broader healthcare innovation landscape.
