Le jeudi 13 février, EIT Health France a participé à la présentation du BMK Tool – un service de plateforme en ligne gratuit pour les chercheurs et l’industrie concernant le processus de validation des biomarqueurs dans les bureaux d’Aviesan à Paris. EIT Health a financé la phase finale de réalisation de la plateforme.

Les biomarqueurs – définis comme “une caractéristique biologique qui est objectivement mesurée et évaluée comme un indicateur de processus biologiques ou pathologiques normaux, ou une réponse pharmacologique à une intervention thérapeutique” – sont devenus des outils essentiels dans la découverte de nouveaux médicaments et le développement de la médecine personnalisée, représentant un véritable défi stratégique pour l’industrie pharmaceutique et les entreprises de biotechnologie. Le défi économique est également important pour les autorités sanitaires, car l’utilisation de biomarqueurs et la sélection de patients répondant aux traitements permettraient de limiter les coûts des soins de santé.

L’outil BMK développé par Aviesan fournira :
– une description détaillée de chacune des 8 étapes de la chaîne de développement du BMK, depuis le stade de la découverte jusqu’à sa mise sur le marché pour une utilisation par les patients, couvrant tous les aspects réglementaires. Ainsi, différentes communautés utiliseront le même langage concernant ce processus.

– une plateforme d’échange confidentielle où les chercheurs pourront remplir un formulaire en ligne afin de positionner leur projet sur la chaîne de développement et la soumission du projet à un Comité consultatif d’experts prêts à conseiller.

Launch of the BMK TOOLS: bridging biomarkers from the lab to the patient

On Thursday, 13 February EIT Health France took part in the presentation of the BMK Tool – an online platform service free of charge for researchers and industry concerning the process of biomarker validation in the Aviesan offices in Paris. EIT Health supported the final phase of the platform’s implementation.

Biomarkers – defined as “a biological characteristic that is objectively measured and evaluated as an indicator of normal biological or pathological processes, or a pharmacological response to a therapeutic intervention”- have become essential tools in the discovery of new drugs and the development of personalised medicine, representing a truly strategic challenge for the pharmaceutical industry and biotechnology companies. The economic challenge is also strong for the health authorities as the use of biomarkers and the selection of treatment-responsive patients would limit health care costs.

The BMK tool developped by Aviesan will provide:
– a detailed description of each of the 8 steps of BMK development chain from the discovery stage to its placing on the market for patient use, covering all regulatory aspects. Thus different communities will rely on the same language concerning this process.
– a confidential exchange platform where researchers may fill in an online dynamic form in order to position their project on the development chain and the submission of the project to an Advisory Commitee of experts ready to advise.
