As we proudly reflect on a year defined by extraordinary milestones, impactful collaborations, and innovations that continue to shape the future of healthcare, here are some of the year’s top highlights at EIT Health Ireland-UK.
Start-Up Funding Successes
Several start-ups supported by EIT Health achieved remarkable funding milestones this year:
- Galway-based Luminate Medical expanded its Series A funding to $17.5 million with an additional $2.5 million led by Atlantic Bridge. This funding supports their ground-breaking work in cancer care, as they begin clinical trials in the United States.
- SymPhysis Medical, another Galway-based MedTech start-up, raised €2.2 million to advance its “releaze” device for palliative care in cancer patients. This funding marks a significant step towards securing FDA clearance.
- Dublin-based CroíValve secured $16 million in Series B funding to further develop its minimally invasive heart valve treatment for tricuspid regurgitation, improving the lives of millions globally.
- Galway’s Signum Surgical achieved De Novo clearance from the FDA for its BioHealx device, offering a safer, minimally invasive solution for treating anal fistulas.
- Amethyst Care, based at Trinity College Dublin, received over €500,000 in funding from Enterprise Ireland. Their AI-driven voice assistant for patients with mobility challenges promises to revolutionise patient care.
- Oxford-based Ochre Bio signed a deal exceeding $1 billion with Boehringer Ingelheim, advancing RNA therapies for chronic liver diseases.
- Irish start-up Wellola raised €2.2 million to expand its Portasana® platform, which enhances patient care and communication, addressing healthcare delivery challenges.
New Partnerships
EIT Health Ireland-UK’s network expanded in 2024 as we welcomed new partners. Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT), IQVIA, eg technology and Odelle Technology joined EIT Health as Network Partners.
Catapult 2024 Winners
CELEX Oncology a UK-based start-up, which is treating invasive and metastatic cancer, won the EIT Health Catapult 2023-2024 finals.
Three Irish start-ups—Galenband, Tympany Medical, and ArrayPatch—secured spots in the EIT Health Catapult semi-finals 2024-2025. Competing among Europe’s top innovators, these start-ups will receive mentorship and support to refine their business strategies and scale their impact.

Launch of EIT Hub UK
March 2024 saw the launch of the EIT Hub UK, a bridge between EU and UK innovation ecosystems. The EIT Hub UK will be a one stop shop for EU and UK innovation players, by leading matchmaking activities, immersion visits and building a bridge for commercial collaborations.
