23rd June 2023

The EIT Health Catapult 2023 competition winners were revealed this week at the Bits & Pretzels HealthTech Conference. The competition aims to accelerate the growth of European health start-ups by providing them with access to experts and investors. Austrian Start-up BiomeDx has won the esteemed Alex Casta Audience Award and got 2nd place in the MedTech category!

Now in its seventh year, Catapult has already supported more than 200 start-ups, with a community of more than 400 investors and 2,500 healthcare professionals backing the programme. Catapult is part of EIT Health’s extensive portfolio of initiatives aimed at elevating a fresh generation of companies capable of delivering transformative solutions to health challenges faced by Europe’s citizens.

EIT Health Catapult’s esteemed 2023 Alex Casta Audience Award went to BiomeDx, an Austrian start-up making waves in the healthcare industry. BiomeDx has gained recognition for its innovative approach to leveraging microbiome analysis for personalised healthcare. By analysing the unique composition of an individual’s microbiome, BiomeDx aims to unlock valuable insights for personalised treatments and preventive healthcare strategies.

Melanie Hartl, Entrepreneurship Lead at EIT Health Austria, about BiomeDx’s success: “I’m deeply impressed by the quality of the start-ups in the competition and extremely happy about the outstanding performance of our Austrian start-up representatives. BiomeDx truly deserves this prestigious recognition and I’m excited to see them leveraging this triumph into substantial future growth.”

The overall 2023 Catapult category winners timeisbrain, immunyx and deepeye, who were announced at the conference, represented the finest in European healthcare innovation across the Biotech, MedTech, and digital health categories. Read more about the winners here.
