Christina Åkerman is Senior Advisor for EIT Health and chair of EIT Health High Value Care Forum Advisory Board. She is Affiliate Faculty at the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin, Senior Institute Associate at the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness (ISC), Harvard Business School, and on the Steering Committee of the Coalition for Health, Ethics and Society at the European Policy Center. Until August 2018, she was the President of the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement. She has also served as Director General for the Medical Products Agency in Sweden, been a Member of the Board of the European Medicines Agency and President of AstraZeneca Philippines.

Alexandre Lourenco is Administrator at Coimbra University Hospital, and a PhD student at Nova School of Business and Economics. Since 2014, he has been a WHO Consultant, providing technical assistance on health systems strengthening and financing, and a member of its European Technical Advisory Group on Tuberculosis Control. He is the President of the Portuguese Association of Hospital Managers, Board member of the European Association of Hospital Managers, Treasurer of the European Health Management Association, and Honorary Fellow of the Brazilian College of Health Executives. He is the Exec Editor-in-Chief of the HealthManagement Journal and has co-authored several healthcare policy documents (e.g. EC, WHO, OECD, ILO), book chapters, scientific papers, and posters.

Ania Henley is an adviser to EIT Health on Citizen and Patient Engagement and to the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Public Advisory Panel at Imperial College, London. She is a member of the editorial board of Data Saves Lives for the European Patient Forum. Her background is in finance and in creating systems for clinical audits and care pathways for the collection of data for research and running clinical trials at Imperial College, London, for over 20 years.

Fabian Prasser is a Professor of Medical Informatics at the Charité, Berlin, and Head of the Medical Informatics Group at the Berlin Institute of Health. He works on the design and implementation of data integration and data sharing architectures as well as on related data protection challenges. A recent example is the IMI-funded Health Outcomes Observatories (H2O) project, which aims to create a framework in which patient-reported outcomes are collected in a standardised way and aggregated, anonymised data are used to define outcome-based values for healthcare interventions.

George Paliouras is head of the AI Lab SKEL of NCSR “Demokritos” (Greece). He holds a PhD from Manchester University (UK) and has performed research in AI and machine learning. Currently a voluntary Chair for the Duchenne Data Foundation, he has also been a board member for various scientific societies, an editorial board member of journals and chair of conferences. He has coordinated European research projects, has taught postgraduate courses and has co-founded tech companies.

Professor Gerardine Doyle is Director of the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School and Associate Dean, College of Business at University College Dublin. Previously Gerardine has successfully undertaken several leadership roles in the University. Beyond the university Gerardine has been a member of and chaired several committees and boards, including the Audit Committee of the Health Service Executive and the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. Gerardine was recently appointed President of the European Institute of Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM), a multidisciplinary network for researchers with over 50,000 management scientists.

Professor Doyle has developed a significant multidisciplinary research agenda in collaboration, with many international colleagues at leading institutions including Harvard Business School where Gerardine was a visiting scholar during 2017. A key motivation driving Gerardine’s work is to deliver societal impact by engaging in societal-challenge orientated research to influence national and international policy with special emphasis on health and tax policy.

Hans Martens was born in Denmark, and studied Political Science at Aarhus University, specialising in EU affairs and in public administration, before becoming Associate Professor in international political and economic relations. Formerly a Chief Executive of the European Policy Centre (EPC), a leading Brussels think tank, he is now Senior Advisor to EPC and chairs CHES (Coalition for Health, Ethics and Society), the health policy programme of the EPC.

Hervé Michel holds a PhD in Political Science, and is director of MADoPA, a French Living Lab specialising in the co-creation, experimentation and evaluation of services and technologies for older people and patients with chronic disease and Associate Partner of EIT Health.

Holger Stalberg is a Researcher and Project Manager for the implementation and development of two bundled reimbursement models introduced in Stockholm Region (OrthoChoice and Spine Surgery). He is also developing a model of medical quality follow-up in hospital systems and received both his M.D. and his doctorate from the Karolinska Institute.

Jan Hazelzet is professor of Health Care Quality and Outcome at the Erasmus MC. His main topic of interest is Value Based Health Care leading to patient-centered care, best outcomes and lowest costs. He is Clinical Lead of the Erasmus Center for Value Based Health Care, a member of the NFU Quality of Care Consortium, a joint effort of the Dutch 8 university medical centers to improve healthcare quality by stimulating learning, research and education in the field of patient-centered care and improved outcomes, and leads the LIVE (learning in value) working group of the European University Hospital Alliance (EUHA).

Jeroen van der Wolk has been responsible for all procurement-related data analytics at Zilveren Kruis Achmea, the largest healthcare insurer in the Netherlands. Combining his experience in strategy development and execution, healthcare and data analytics he led the development of the Value Based Contracting strategy and methodology for Zilveren Kruis. He was a co-founder and Partner at Gupta Strategists, a boutique strategy consulting firm, focused on healthcare. Currently he is working at an innovative mental health provider to increase the use of data, focusing on Routine Outcome Monitoring.

Laura Sampietro-Colom is the Deputy Director of Innovation and Head of the Unit for the Assessment of Innovations and New Technologies at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, Spain, a high-tech hospital and a reference for health care, research, innovation and medical training in Spain. She is also involved in Innovative Public Procurement and Value Based Purchasing with doctors and procurers at hospital and has 30 years of experience in health technology assessment (HTA), in which her work has focused on the development, identification, management and transfer of information to advise, public and private organisations, on the designing of strategies and policies for adopting innovative technologies.

Scott Wallace is the co-founder and Managing Director of the Value Institute for Health and Care and an Associate Professor at the University of Texas Dell Medical School and the McCombs School of Business. He was appointed by U.S. President George W. Bush to chair the Federal Commission on Systemic Interoperability, which advised the White House and Congress on information technology and health transformation. He was also the first president and CEO of the National Alliance for Health Information Technology, and was a co-founder of the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology. Before his academic career, he helped co-found an early-stage venture capital firm, was CEO of a specialty chemical company, and practiced corporate law at the Chicago law firm Kirkland & Ellis.

Thomas Allvin is Executive Director for Strategy and Healthcare Systems at the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA), where his responsibilities include developing EFPIA’s policies for patient-centred, outcomes-based and sustainable health systems. Previously, Thomas was Health Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of Sweden to the European Union, and has worked in several positions in the Swedish Ministry of Health and the Swedish Parliament.

Yves Verboven leads the Access & Economic Policies team who focus on European legislative and research initiatives in a number of fields including procurement, health technology assessment, evidence generation for the medtech industry, and access for medical technologies and solutions. With the team, his work looks to address both the health issue and health system challenges through medical technology policies to offer the best care while minimising waste, inefficiency and complication. Yves has expertise in clinical engineering in the medtech industry and has an applied science and engineering background with further education in Business administration and health economics.
