Empowering European Patients in Radiation Oncology

Radiation therapy is indicated for many cancers but patients worry about its side effects. The E-PRO online course dispels myths and provides information in an accessible format so patients can make informed choices.

E-PRO’s Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) gives European cancer patients and citizens access to relevant available scientific information about the use of radiation for cancer management. Written in clear, accessible language, E-PRO seeks to empower patients so they can take part in the decision-making process for their cancer treatment and their after-treatment care.

E-PRO is based on an English-language MOOC that was produced in 2018 at Trinity College Dublin and reached 1,500 participants from 111 countries worldwide. With EIT Health support for translation, patients from Spain, France and Russia are now able to participate. The MOOC’s content has also been enhanced with expert input from Maastricht University in the Netherlands, to provide better decision aids, helping individual patients make more informed choices about their own course of therapy.
